www.flickr.com, 2001-ongoing
this is an on-going archive of relayed images stored at flickr, in no particular order, of every photo sent or received via e-mail or on some sort of network since around 2001, maybe earlier or maybe later if the dates are registered wrong on the files, and with the exception of those that have gotten lost along the way. There are nearly 3,000 collected as of now, to be continuously uploaded as time and interest allows. Most of these photos are uninteresting, banal and unworthy of the tactile archive or a glossy print, but as one with difficulties to throw things away, here they are, left in the computer like digital blinks of dust in a folder titled "to/from".
A photo sharing site seemed like an appropriate place to let these images out again, so for now...a digital showing of sorts. Some are nice, or funny, or typical or cute or boring...but here is the thing that is flickr! This panopticon is a viewfinder, a way of seeing, as well as a prison. We are made up of all of these images, wound up in them, addicted. Is the whole here greater than the sum of its parts, and do these instances manage any sort of meaningful identity?
